You might see some strange things this weekend, hundreds of people fixing other people's homes. And many of those workers will be women.

One volunteer is a mother of two whose all-female architect firm will also be out swinging hammers, all for a good cause.

Hundreds of volunteers are preparing for a weekend of hard labor. Every kind of home repair project you can think of, painting, patching, cutting, cleaning. They'll be fixing homes like one in Arlington that belongs to Sara Blount.

Multiple sclerosis has left Sara, a former chef, on oxygen and partially paralyzed. She can't afford to fix her cabinets, flooring or ceiling. And she needs a new ramp that not so steep. Volunteers from the non-profit RPJ Housing plan to get it all done.

Lisa Langebrake is a mother of two and part owner of a five-woman architect firm in Arlington. they?ll be out at Sara?s house this weekend.

The event coincides with national rebuilding day this Saturday, with 265,000 volunteers across the country working on almost 9,000 homes. They all belong to seniors, the disabled or low-income families with kids. Locally, 2,000 volunteers will repair 55 homes.
