Buddy Check 9 Promotes Breast Self Awareness
Buddies,
Good breast health begins with early detection. That includes self-exams. Buddy Check Nine and Georgetown University Hospital have produced a new breast self-exam D-V-D.
Minna Manalo is featured in the video. I interviewed Minna, a certified breast health specialist at Georgetown, on 9 News Now at 9AM.

In women who have breast implants, the self-breast exam technique is the same. However, a woman can discuss with her plastic surgeon how to differentiate between her breast tissue and the implant itself, as she may be able to feel the valve on the implant and mistake it for a breast mass. A woman with implants should also be aware that she will require a more mammogram pictures than a woman without implants to adequately capture both the breast tissue and implant on the mammogram. She will require 4 standard views and 4 additional views (also called Eklund view), where the implant is displaced against the chest wall.
