Snitching to the Cops!

Maybe you have seen the TV reports about young people who refuse to talk with Police...about anything. If they see a crime, regardless of how brutal they won't talk. If their own family member is hurt or killed, chances are they're not talking with police.

There are two reasons for this. Number one is that co-operating in a police investigation can get you killed in some parts of this city. Criminals will do anything to intimidate potential witnesses, including killing them or their loved ones. I've covered such incidents.

Another reason why people in tough neighborhoods don't talk to cops is that it's the code. Your don't "Snitch" to police, for whatever reason.

It's this second excuse that law abiding community activists are trying to change. If more people would speak up there would be less crime and certainly less violent crime.

The group Peaceaholics includes a lot of young people who come from the streets and the criminal justice system. They have changed and now they have set out to change their communities.
