No News is Bad News Indeed

"Don't taunt the news gods!"

That's what my former Executive Producer used to say back at ABC News on the overnight when someone would lament the lack of big stories on a given early morning. Basically she was saying we've got a quiet morning so don't jinx it!!

I get that. I do. But even on minor-barely-celebrated holidays like this one you can find yourself hoping for some kind of breaking news-- just so there's something to put on the air between 5 pm and 730pm.

Let's see. Right now we've got ....the weather, that poor guy who died in the 10-miler yesterday, the Day Without Immigrants(It doesn't happen until tomorrow but hey...a preview is always nice), some sort of construction accident, the Reskins won big, and heck..it looks like even Britney Spears may have taken the day off!!!!
All I have to do to change all that is to speak the forbidden phrase:

"Hey, there's really nothing much going on today. Suuuuure is quiet."

Tony the Scheduler said that one morning. An hour later there was a private plane flying toward the White House with Air Force jet fighters in hot pursuit. Such is the power of the news gods: such is the risk in pissing them off.

You know what? I think hold off for now. But its still early....

Yeah, no news 'is' good news, at least let's hope it stays quiet here. Maybe it can rain in someone else's backyard, you know it will; (it's always raining somewhere).

I think I saw Oswald get shot about six times (once on live TV), The challenger explode about a dozen times, and double that for the twin towers collapsing. I don't blame the news, but I wonder sometimes about the zeal.

Still there are plenty of stories that don't involve hate or pain, but I guess those don't have the same market value as sex and violence.

So by tempting fate, and hoping for no news, is that bad? Is heaven hell in that a perfect world is also perfectly boring?

It may be if your business is selling news and courting ratings.

Be careful what you wish for.

Anyways, I like it boring.
Well...
If you can call this boring:

As you are well aware there are tons of really bad stories out there but if you want to take a day off and "chill" who am I to object!!!All you have to do is look around you and listen, It does not have to be in the newscast just in my neighbourhood or yours.
take care of that cold

Here is another link to that story I ended my post with.

A better article on the shoot that expresses the artistic sentiment, as well as (I guess) the spiritual meaning.

Schwartz, the attorney who participated, said she did it "for art, for history" and came away with "a little more peace in accepting who I am and accepting the different shapes and looks here."

If there is a God (news or otherwise), I feel he/she/it can appreciate the sincerity and celebration of life that this artist is trying to communicate.

I've been following his many works as they come across the 'wire'.

I hope California gets some rain (speaking of rain).

It's just a matter of time until something catastrophic happens and the wire is filled with stories about it. Southern Cal has had epic fights with fires in the past, and now this one seems to be getting the better of them. It's a dry region, the populations more than the local water can support, and it's that time of year.

I feel for those people but I also wonder about it. Like all the homes lined up on the outer banks, just waiting for a hurricane (the big bad wolf) to come blow them all down.

I don't want to seem insensitive, I just feel sometimes we Taunt the Gods by lack of good sense in where and how much we build.
