No Mailbag Tonight Because......

Sometimes I tell viewers that the 'Mailbag' is empty. I'm almost always lying.

Its rarely a matter of no email at all. Its usually more 'can I actually use any of this stuff on the air?'
Sometimes it will look like McGinty's Mailbag is burting at the seams, when all I really have is 14 press releases and an urgent notice that I have won the Bulgarian Lottery Sweepstakes.

Other times, we have emails from viewers, but they're too nonsensical, too complex or just too dang mean to use. Here's one that came in right after that 14 year old kid was shot by the cops after he allegedly fired at them from the seat of a stolen mini-bike.

Sorry, its a sad story to begin with anytime you have a 14 year old carrying a gun. Blame should be place where it belongs, with the parents. Maybe had they spent more time with there son they could have kept him off a stolen bike and taught him why he shouldn't carry a pistol. Yes, it sad but at the rate he was going maybe this will save some innocent victim he would have encountered between the age of 14 and 21. Our streets are a little safer without him.

Now, c'mon. Our streets are a little safer without him? Perhaps true, but too insensitive after a kid has just been shot down. Especially since the circumstances of the shooting were and are still in dispute. Or how about this gem?

Reported today that hormone thearpy used to treat women for breast cancer was dramatically less effective for black women than for white women; resulting in a higher mortality rate for black women.
Those of us in the know fully understand that the cracker is behind this racist disparity. Perhaps the honkey has harnessed the molecule, or possibly cracker MD's are substituting a placebo. Regardless, it's racism on the part of crackers; and therefore, hormone thearpy should be banned.........

This guy writes me all the time, and I actually like what he's trying do here. (You do get it, don't you?) But I worry the satire might be lost on some folks, who may not be ready to hear words like 'cracker' tossed around. I could be wrong.

But I'm not wrong about this guy...whose writing about the Jena 6:

A hate crime if there ever has been. That is the reason network news is burying this. Black people are f***ed up on race. They can't get past their hate. I'm sure as hell am going to help them though from now on....

That kind offer from somone calling himself "Duke Lacrosse." Hoo Boy!
So you see what I'm up against here. Give me email I can use!!! Mailbag@wusa9.com

Your mailbag is becoming the victim of the anonymity of the internet. It's like we’ve all been provided with our own personal soapbox, megaphone and face mask. It’s easy to sling mud and “act a fool” from the safety of your keyboard. I’m glad you have the good sense to know what is appropriate, and not just bait.

Well you do know me, and you've aired (in edited form) many of my emails over the years.

I like the mailbag. I don't spam it, only when I have something meaningful to say, and can make it somehow comprehensible. Also I'm grateful wusa9 offers it, similar to a more controlled version of "talk radio" but with a lot more control than the five second delay.

Consider the mailbag similar to the topix forum with the anonymity it offers, you most often get the raw side of people (when serious) or just nonsense because well... there is a lot of apathy and ignorance out there. More-so than talk radio feedback, because of this.

I've thought of what it must be like to be a newscaster, aside from how attractive the job may be in many respects, the other side of it.
I have the luxury of saying whatever I feel, but as Katie Couric said regarding Dan Rather: “And sloppy work is sloppy work, They did not dot their I’s and cross their T’s when it came to that story… And our job is to get right.” Not many of the people (including myself) have it right all the time. Now and then we may come up with a new way to look at things, as I try to do... but there are good and bad days.

Anyways another long one, I hope you like to read, because I like to write. :)

Thanks...

You know sometimes I'm in the mood to write something.
Like tonight, I wanted to send the mailbag something about all this rope fashioned into nooses that has been appearing in the news lately.

I open an email, and start to compose, and I just cannot seem to express myself appropriately.

It's not that I'm worried if it will pass your filter and be aired, more that if you do communicate it, that it actually makes a difference to "someone" out there.

I wish more people had my lens, and then maybe somehow the news would be about discovery and advances, and not corruption and destruction.

It may just make your job that much more exciting.

Let the technician behind the TV cameras stay behind their post and not join you 3 whenever there is a short break.
Everyone has a position in life and at work and his is NOT where you guys are.
I dislike that a lot and have wanted to write this months ago, but finally do it after seeing again the technician come to your desk and start a conversation with you as if he was an anchor at the show.
Please let him stay behind the cameras!

That Palin woman's motto must be:
"Let's do what's right even if it's
wrong!" And very wrong indeed it is.
Watching her moving her lipsticky
mouth I feared she'd pull out a gun
and shoot at anybody,including the
audience..How can anybody sane vote
for a moose killer??? The very thought makes me sick...good bye,Mr.
McBush and Sarah Iceberg...

One more comment on Troopergate: Gov. Palin says over & over again
that she has the AUTHORITY to fire anyone. It's a shame she doesn't have the ETHICS that should go along with being a human being, much less a Governor. Makes me wonder what may happen if she becomes vice-president.
