Stevensville, Md (WUSA)--- The camo-clad crowd on Maryland's Eastern Shore is buzzing about the bust of a suspected prowler who was caught on tape by a camera most sportsmen use to hunt deer.

"We had hundreds of hits," marveled Queen Anne's County Sheriff Gary Hofmann who linked the Sheriff's department Facebook page to a posting of the video by the resident who captured the images.

The Facebook traffic led to a flood of comments and tips that helped deputies track down the suspect.

Jason Grimes was arrested Tuesday after a 3-hour chase that led officers through cornfields and woods.

The so-called "scout cam" that captured the images of Grimes was set up outside a home by a resident who was fed up with reports of break-ins in the community.  The stealthy surveillance cameras are normally deployed by hunters to capture shots of deer and other wildlife they might want to pursue.  The cameras are triggered by motion detectors and operate for months at a time.

The cameras are everywhere in this part of Maryland known as a sportsman's paradise.

"I'd say 90 percent of your hunters are going to have a camera, if not two," said a worker at Chesapeake Outdoors, a popular local outfitter.

"He's lucky he didn't get shot," said hunter Ashley Gough who noted the large numbers of people in the area armed for hunting season.
