FREDERICK, Md. (WUSA) -- A hit and run, drunk driving suspect tried to run away from the scene of an accident in Frederick, but he made one mistake, he left a trail of beer behind, police said.

Edward Christopher Sinsky, 26, of Frederick crashed his truck into a fire hydrant on Sunday, at around 7:15 a.m., in the area of Patrick Street and College Avenue police said.

When police got to the scene of the single vehicle crash, they talked to witnesses who described Sinsky as the driver of the truck.

"The subject located by police, later identified as Sinsky, was positively identified by witnesses as the driver of the vehicle in the accident. Sinsky had removed a case of beer from the vehicle was attempting to run while carrying the beer. Sinsky left a trail of beer cans from the vehicle to his location where he was found," police said.

Sinsky failed a series of field-sobriety tests after he was found, police said.

This isn't the first time Sinsky had been in trouble for drinking and driving, police said.

"Sinsky also had an alcohol restriction on his driving record. Sinsky was subsequently transported to central booking where he was released after receiving a $14,000 bond. No one was injured in the accident and the only damage besides the vehicle was a fire hydrant," police said.

Sinsky faces eight charges in the crash, including leaving the scene of an accident, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
