COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) -- Viral internet video showing University of Maryland student 21-year-old Emily Lang has spawned many questions over police procedure during her April 26 arrest. Now, Prince George's County Police officials say their officers did nothing wrong.
In the video Lang is seen arguing and tussling with a bouncer outside Cornerstone Grill and Loft on the 7300 block of Baltimore Ave. in College Park. The bouncer then throws a drink in her face, further enraging Lang who becomes increasingly combative. Police were called moments later and according to them Lang was drunk and belligerent. In the video you can see her resisting officers.
The questions come immediately following her arrest. The officer places her in the front seat of the patrol car rather than the back.
Prince George's County Police spokeswoman, Lt. Tammy Sparkman said, "This vehicle did not have a cage, and that's why that officer placed Ms. Lang in the front seat."
Then the 21-year-old managed to wiggle out of the handcuffs. Lt. Sparkman replied to that concern by stating, "It appears that maybe her wrist was too slim, and she slid out of the cuffs."
Toward the end of the video you can see officers pulling Lang out of the car and restraining her again. The second time officers also tied her feet with a restraint device in efforts to keep her from kicking or running away, according to Prince George's County Police officials.
Lt. Sparkman said, "Those officers followed procedure. They were called there. They were in a position where they had to restrain a disorderly individual."
