DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier at a Tuesday Afternoon News Conference
WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- Three DC Police officers were arrested in a sting operation, DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a Tuesday afternoon news conference.
Fourth District officers Guillermo Ortiz, Silvestre Bonilla, Dioni Fernandez were caught trying to purchase stolen electronic goods, according to the chief.
This announcement came just a day after another 4th District officer, Jennifer Green, was arrested for taking cash from a crime scene, according to cops. That charge is completely unrelated to the new charges, Lanier said.
The 2-month-long internal affairs investigation stemmed from performance reviews, according to the chief. Lanier said the department is doing everything it can to "weed out" officers who "go out on their own."
More documents are expected to be released about the investigation in the next few days, Lanier said.
