WASHINGTON — A Virginia church is giving $100,00 to 34 graduating seniors at Howard University in the District to help pay for their remaining balance that stood in their way of graduation.

On January 31, Senior Pastor Howard-John Wesley of Alfred Street Baptist Church presented the check to some of the students.

"We believe that when God has been a blessing to us, we ought to be a blessing to some others, so with joyful hearts we come down here to Howard University with $100,000 in scholarship to sew into the lives of students who are in need to make certain they go on to do great things in the world," Pastor Wesley said.

Alfred Street Baptist is 216-year-old church in Alexandria and is committed to building disciples to transform the world for Jesus Christ.

Howard University is grateful for donation to its students.

"We appreciate your investment into our students and the priority placed into supporting the HBCU community," read a tweet from the university's public Twitter account.
