FAIRFAX, Va. -- Two people are dead and two others are injured after a Fairfax home became engulfed in flames early Tuesday morning, said Fairfax County Fire officials.
According to Battalion Chief Keith Ludeman, spokesman for the Fairfax County Fire Department, crews were alerted to the fire in the 11400 block of Popes Head around 1:30 a.m. Firefighters arrived on the scene within three minutes to find a single-story older home with fire showing from all sides.
Chief Ludeman said fire crews were met outside the home by a middle age man who told them three more people were still trapped inside.
Firefighters quickly fought the flames from outside the home due to the intensity of the blaze. Once they were able to bring the fire under control firefighters made entry and found a man and a woman inside, both in cardiac arrest.
They were transported to a local hospital where the man succumbed to his injuries. Medics where able to revive the woman, who remains in critical condition. A fourth person was found dead inside the home. The man who met the arriving firefighters was also transported with non-life-threatening injuries.
Several units remain at the scene, which are blocking Popes Head Road between Fairfax County Parkway and Ox Rd./VA 123.
Right now investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause of the blaze.
