Soto's homer against Yankees came before Major League debut

Nationals outfielder Juan Soto is now credited with a home run in a game that happened before his major league debut.

(WUSA 9) - Juan Soto has figured out time travel. Sort of.

On Monday, the Nationals outfielder homered in a game against the Yankees. That's not a big deal in itself. The Nationals rookie has hit six home runs this season so far.

The game was the completion of a game that started on May 15. That's where it gets weird.

Despite the game being resumed on June 18, the stats count for May 15, because that's when the game started.

So while Soto gets credit for a home run on May 15, the date of his major league debut remains May 20, when he entered a game against the Dodgers as a pinch hitter. One day later, Soto hit his first career home run in the major leagues on May 21. That's six days after the Nationals outfielder is now credited with hitting a home run, thanks to his homer against the Yankees on Monday as part of the completion of the suspended game that started on May 15.

Time travel is confusing.

And oh by the way, in the world of baseball statistics, Juan Soto now technically was in two places at once on May 15.

Last month the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Nationals, played at the Bowie Baysox. Soto went 3-4 in the game with an RBI in the Senators 5-4 loss.

Now thanks to Monday's completion of the Nationals suspended game against the Yankees, Juan Soto played in a game at Nationals Park that happened on May 15, as well as a game in Bowie, Md.

Like I said, time travel is confusing.
