Passengers on United flight forced to deplane via emergency slide at DCA

Authorities said the evacuation was caused by a smoke in the cockpit of a Houston bound flight.

ARLINGTON, Va. (WUSA9) — UPDATE: Officials with the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority released the following statement regarding the incident:

"At approximately 1 p.m. today, United flight 6122 (ERJ-170) was taxiing for departure from Reagan National Airport en route to Houston when smoke in the cabin was reported and Airports Authority emergency personnel responded to the aircraft. All Passengers and crew evacuated via slides without incident and returned to the United gate. Normal airport operations have resumed, and the aircraft is being checked by airline personnel."
