The Maryland State Comptroller is proposing some significant changes for the state's craft brewing industry.
Earlier this week, State Comptroller Peter Franchot unveiled legislation called the "Reform on Tap Act of 2018."
The legislation calls on the state to lift caps on the amounts of beer Maryland breweries can produce and sale. The proposal would also allow local legislatures to decide how long taprooms stay open. Currently, breweries must close their taprooms in Maryland by 10 p.m.
Franchot believes the legislation will help brewers produce more beer and ultimately improve their sales and the Maryland state economy.
Martin Prebula is the co-founder and director of brewing operations at Saints Row Brewing in Rockville. He told WUSA9 he believes the proposed changes could help strengthen the state's craft brewing industry.
"It's less (regulations) for us to have to manage to work through and try to figure out," he said.
