Ocean City's icon 'Boardwalk Elvis' dies at 78

OCEAN CITY, Md. -- Norman Webb, more popularly known as "Boardwalk Elvis" in Ocean City, has died at 78-years-old, says his nephew, John Webb Jr.

"It’s with a heavy and broken heart to inform you that Uncle Norman has finished his earth journey this morning peacefully, comfortably and with loving family members by his bedside," says Webb Jr. on Facebook page devoted to his uncle "Boardwalk Elvis is Alive!"

"Please keep our family in your prayers. We appreciate the love that everyone has shown."

The boardwalk icon touched many lives as he would ride his bicycle on Ocean City's boardwalk and serenade tourists dressed as Elvis and other characters.

Ocean City's Major Rick Meehan posted to his Facebook, sending well wishes.

Many other people recounted their stories of how Boardwalk Elvis impacted them on the Facebook page, which has over 8,000 likes.

"Seeing him ride down 589 in his Santa outfit made my holiday," posted Jane Tyler.

"Some people touch other lives and never know the impact they have.. Norman is one of those people," Teresa Shockley wrote.

The service for Norman will be held at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home is Selbyville, Del. on Thursday June 21 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
