PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A man’s body has been recovered along the Patuxent River in Calvert County two days after he went swimming and did not resurface.

On Monday, July 8, just before 7:30 p.m., deputies responded to Hallowing Lane in the area of the Benedict Bridge in Prince Frederick for a 911 hang up.

Once there, deputies determined the call to be for a missing person.

Investigators say Alex Garcia-Lopez, 19, of Huntingtown, was swimming in the Patuxent River 10-20 yards from the shoreline when he went underwater and never resurfaced. Crews canvassed the area but did not find Garcia-Lopez.

Two days later, around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, his body was recovered in the area he went missing. His family has been notified of his death. His body is on the way to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for further investigation.
