Md. HS students write letters of support to Parkland, Fla. school

Maryland high school students are going above and beyond to lend their peers in Parkland, Florida a helping hand.

Maryland high school students are going above and beyond to lend their peers in Parkland, Fla. a helping hand.

AP World History students at Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Md. wrote letters of support to AP World History students at Marjory Stoneman Douglass High School. The latter institution was the site of a school shooting that claimed the lives of 17 people last week.

According to Churchill AP World History teacher Chris Forney, students at Churchill decided to write the letters after the AP World History teacher at Douglass asked other AP World History classes across the country to show some support to her students.

"I just thought that was a good idea," Forney said.

Churchill ultimately sent Douglass about 50 letters. One of them came from Junior Alex Miller.

"It's just that we're here for you and that you've impacted us so much that it's really made us want to do something," she said.

Junior Dani Miller said she has also been inspired by the activism of Douglass students following the shooting.

"They just need to know that they have everyone's support," she said.
