Great Mills High School shooting: What we know now

Here's what we know so far about the shooting at a Maryland high school.

WHAT HAPPENED? There was a shooting inside Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County Tuesday morning around 7:45 a.m. just as the school day was beginning.

According to the sheriff's office, the 17-year-old male shooter is dead, the two victims are being treated at local hospitals -- the female is critical and the male is in good condition.

WHERE DID IT HAPPEN? According to the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office a 17-year-old male student fired at a 16-year-old female student in the hallway. Another 14-year-old male student was also shot in the hallway. Eyewitnesses report that students were running out of the building after the shooting, but before police were on the scene to lockdown the school.

A school resource officer Deputy Blaine Gaskill confronted the shooter, stopping him from injuring others.

This is just a few days after threats were made on Snapchat against the school. The sheriff's department investigated the threat but did not find it to be authentic. Now investigators are trying to figure out if the shooting was related.

WHO WAS THE SHOOTER? Austin Wyatt Rollins, 17, was identified as the alleged shooter. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The sheriff also stated that an armed school resource officer exchanged shots with the shooter, but was not injured. Police believe there was a prior relationship between the victim and the shooter.
