An 84-year-old woman died after being rescued from a house fire in District Heights, Maryland late Sunday night, fire officials said.

An 84-year-old woman died after being rescued from a house fire in District Heights, Maryland late Sunday night, fire officials said.

Around 11 p.m., fire crews responded to 6000 block of North Hil Mar Circle. A 911 caller told officials that someone was trapped inside.

When firefighters arrived, they immediately began looking for the trapped person, Doris Miller, and preparing to put out the fire in the two-story townhouse.

The victim was found on the second floor. Firefighters brought Miller outside and waited for the medics to arrive. The medics began treating the victim on their way to the house hospital. She was pronounced dead a short time after arriving.

No other injuries were reported in the fire, but Miller's daughter and son-in-law were displaced. They are being assisted by The County Citizen Services Unite and the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No working smoke alarms were found inside the townhouse.
