Two toddlers are dead and four other people were injured in a fire broke out at a house in Loveville, Md. Tuesday morning, St. Mary's County Sheriff's Department said.
The fire happened around 4:40 a.m. in the 28600 block of Point Lookout Rd., officials stated.
Officials confirmed that two children were killed and two other children and two adults were injured. Family members say the toddlers who died are Kaleb Johnson, 3, and Kassidy Johnson, 2. Their mother, Kelsey Davis was burned and suffered smoke inhalation after she went back into the house to try and rescue her babies, according to Davis' mother, Dawn Wilson.
Wilson says she has no idea how the family is even going to pay for funerals. Kelsey Davis works as an assistant manager at the Family Dollar store in Leonardtown. Her uncle has set up a GoFundMe page.
Fire crews are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
The house is a total loss. Investigators found a smoke detector, but they say it did not have a battery inside.
