10-year-old seriously injured after being hit by car in St. Mary's Co.

Police say the driver of the car stopped and stayed on the scene.

LEXINGTON PARK, MD -- A 10-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car in St. Mary's County on Wednesday.

The girl was hit by the car around 3 p.m. in the 4600 block of Yorktown Road. Police say the 10-year-old ran out from behind an ice cream truck and into the road as a car was passing by. The girl was hit by the car that 72-year-old Linda Glaser was driving.

Following th accident, police say Glaser was assaulted by at least one person in the neighborhood. Police are continuing to investigate the assault.

The 10-year-old was flown to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

Police say Glaser of the car was also taken to the hospital with injuries consistent with being assaulted.

No further information has been released at this time.
