Rescuers find 7 dogs left for days without food, water in DC home filled with feces, urine

The Humane Rescue Alliance rescued the dogs Monday morning.

WASHINGTON — Seven dogs inside a D.C. home were kept in unsanitary conditions and left for days week without food or water, the Humane Rescue Alliance said.

Humane law enforcement officers responded to the report of dogs barking inside of a Northwest D.C. home Monday morning.

When they got to the home they found seven small mixed breed dogs in extremely unsanitary conditions. There were large amounts of feces and urine inside of the home, officials said.

The investigation revealed that the dogs had been left alone in the home for at least four days.

“Neglecting your pet is a crime,” said Chris Schindler, Vice President of Field Services at HRA. “Keeping dogs in unsanitary conditions and leaving them alone for several days without food or water constitutes cruelty.”

The woman who owns the home is under investigation, and neighbors said she also has an apartment she stays at occasionally.

The incident is still under investigation. The dogs will be taken care of by the Humane Rescue Alliance until further notice.
