John McRae, 40, was charged with second-degree murder while armed for the role he played in allegedly killing McMillian Jr., D.C. police said during a news conference Tuesday.

McMillan was last seen on April 23, 2017 on the 2900 block of M Street in SE D.C.

On October 30, 2017, U.S. Park Police located human remains along Suitland Parkway in Prince George’s County, which were later identified as McMillan Jr.

“How could you do something like that to a person? Leave him lying out there in the woods. Know something and don’t say something,” Forlesia Cook expressed.

Police revealed McMillan died after being shot several times inside of an apartment building on Martin Luther King Jr Avenue in Southeast DC.

Investigators believed McRae played a part in the killing and charged him with second-degree murder.

Cook and other family members were critical of the way police handled the case.

They believed McMillan was overlooked because of his troubled past and that there was no urgency to solve the case.

DC Police disagreed and said detectives took the case extremely seriously as they do with any other missing person case.

Chief Peter Newsham told WUSA9 he promised the victim’s family the closure that they saw on Tuesday.

While the case is closed, more arrests are possible.

McRae is expected in court on Wednesday afternoon.
