Washington State Rep. Pramila Jayapal announced the event Monday night on MSNBC as a response to the separation of families that continue to happen on the US-Mexico border.

MoveOn is one of the organizations helping to plan the event.

Karthik Ganapathy, the rapid response for MoveOn, said they expect thousands of people to show up to the rally.

"We're going to have a program," he said. "We're going to have a speaking program. we're going to have a way for people to make their voices heard and beyond that."

MoveOn has been able to form more than 200 separate protests around the country for June 30 since organizing began Monday.
