MCLEAN, Va. — One person is dead after a house fire in McLean, fire officials said.
The fire broke out around noon on Saturday in the 1400 block of Brookhaven Drive, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
Fire officials arrived on scene quickly where they found a "significant volume of fire throughout" according to Assistant Fire Chief Jason Jenkins.
Jenkins said crews had to battle with overgrown trees and brush in order to even get to the fire. Firefighters also struggled with what they call "hoarding conditions" inside the home.
After about an hour of attacking the fire, crews were finally able to get inside the home where they found a deceased victim, Jenkins said.
This person was originally unaccounted for when crews arrived, their identity has not yet been released.
Investigators said they will remain on scene throughout the night and are working to determine a cause and the origin of the fire.
