CHANTILLY, Va. — One man is dead and another person is critically injured after a wrong-way driver caused a head-on crash on southbound Route 28 in Chantilly, Virginia early Friday morning, police said.
According to Lt. Christopher Sharp, spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department, an apparent wrong-way driver travelling north in the southbound lanes of Rt. 28/Sully Rd. struck southbound vehicle at Westfields Blvd. shortly before 2:30 a.m. The two drivers of the vehicles were transported to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.
One of the drivers, 59-year-old Eliseo Ruiz, died at the hospital, according to a police report.
The other driver's identity has not been released at this time.
Detectives are still investigating to determine if alcohol and speed are factors in the crash. Anyone with information should call police at 703-280-0543.
