Avicii remains in the hearts of his friends and fans.
Rita Ora paid tribute to the late Swedish DJ, a close friend, during the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards in New York City on Monday. The British singer took the stage with Bebe Rexha to introduce Maluma's performance, and announced that she and Avicii had been awarded the Best Dance VMA for their collaboration "Lonely Together," which was the last song the musician released before he died earlier this year.
"I wanna take a minute to say, I just found out that Avicii and I won Best Dance, so let's made some noise for Avicii right now," Ora told the crowd. "An amazing talent."
Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman, on April 20. He was 28.
"It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th," his rep said in a statement to ET at the time. "The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given."
Following his unexpected death -- which was later ruled a suicide -- Avicii's family issued statements expressing how much he would be missed.
"Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions," the second statement obtained by ET read. "An over-achieving perfectionist who traveled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress. When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music. He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness. He could not go on any longer. He wanted to find peace. Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight."
"Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed," the statement continued. "The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive."
Fellow musicians, friends and celebrities shared their condolences following the news of his death. Ora had previously honored Avicii at the Netherlands' 538Koningsdag Festival.
"It's gonna be hard for me to sing this next song, and I'll tell you why," Ora told the crowd. "I had the honor of collaborating with somebody who changed my life, and he was a really good friend of mine… I haven't sang his song that we did together ever since he passed away, until today."
